John L. Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund 2020 Application Guidelines

In 2003, the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin (WRA) established the John L Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the late Dr. John L. Buzzi (1936-2003), a former chairman of WRA and member of the Board of Directors who was a water resource engineering professional and a dedicated community leader within and outside the Delaware River Basin. WRA is pleased to announce the availability of $1,000 in scholarship funds for the purpose of educating an aspiring water resources student.

The applicant (1) must be interested in pursuing a degree and/or accepted at an accredited junior college, college or university for the fall semester of 2020, and (2) must have an interest in issues related to water resources. The applicant must be a high school senior, residing within the Delaware River Basin watershed. The immediate family members of WRA’s Board of Directors are not eligible to apply for the scholarship award.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to a student qualified by academic performance, who exhibits an interest in a water resource and environmental issue(s) and solutions and is also involved in the community. Measures of academic performance include a respectable cumulative grade average for grades ten through twelve and a statement of career goals. Job history or volunteer information related to a water resources or environmental field will also be considered. Measures of community involvement include participation in activities that are of benefit to the community at-large.

Application Process

Applicants should complete the attached Application Form and provide a summary of their academic interests and achievements, job and volunteer history, extracurricular and community activities, and career goals as they relate to the above selection criteria. Summaries should be limited to about 700 words. The application must include two letters of reference (they can be generic but preferably from teachers, community leaders, mentors and/or counselors) and a transcript with grades for all courses taken within the last three years. Application materials become the property of WRA.

All applications and supportive materials must be received by WRA at the address below no later than MARCH 1, 2020. Word and/or PDF files sent by email will be accepted by the due date.
